What began as an inquiry about custom windows for a cabin in the Mojave Desert became a complete rehab project. Our client was looking for a humble desert retreat in the spirit of the original mid-century jackrabbit homestead. Combining utilitarian materials with fantastical design vision, a classic vaulted form anchors the cozy interior. Dividing the 400 sq ft cabin in half, this central form acts as a framework for the essential programmatic infrastructure required for a domicile of its scale - sleeping, bathing, cooking, storage. The simple stucco exterior reinterprets the Southwest Adobesque details of the original cabin through a minimalist filter, framing windows that frame views of the interminable xeric landscape. #knowhow1803
