Mt. Washington Pottery

Can a door change the character of a space? The women of Mt Washington Pottery thought so and gave us the challenge of designing and building a new door for their Frogtown ceramics studio. We used the precedent of the jalousie window, a Southern California stalwart, but turned it sideways as a way of bringing light and air into the studio. The door frame is raw steel and the panels are unfinished oak. The reaction between the two will change the appearance of the door over time as the steel oxidizes and the wood blackens. The end result: with the oppressive overhead garage door gone and the new door installed, the entry to the studio is now as designed and inviting as the pottery that is handcrafted inside.
